We are fast approaching the business end of the season, where every game takes on more and more importance. No pressure lads! Leatherhead, ten points adrift of the last play-off place, know that a run of wins is needed if they are to mirror last season's achievement and claim a place in the end of season shoot-out. We currently sit fourth, seven points clear of the chasing pack, although, the teams in sixth, seventh and eighth all have games in hand. Both sides will therefore be looking to pick up all three points and take another step towards a top five finish.
Last time out
Both sides were in action on Saturday. Leatherhead made the trip to top of the table Farnham Town, and despite an injury-time strike from the in-form Ruben Bartlett-Antwi, returned from Hampshire pointless after a narrow 2-1 defeat. We were also on the road at third place Ascot United. A rather cagey affair ending goalless, despite the hosts playing the last sixteen minutes with ten men. Joe Gater seeing red for kicking Harry Rush as he attempted to retrieve the ball for a free kick. The current form table finds The Tanners in 9th place with ten points, while we have climbed to 6th with one point more from the last six league games.
Previously
We first met Leatherhead in February 1959 in a Corinthian League encounter. We won 3-1 at Fetcham Grove on that occasion, and in thirty-three meetings later we hold the upper hand with fourteen victories to thirteen. Last season the team from Surrey completed the double over us. 4-0 at Fetcham Grove in February, and of course, 3-2 in the opening game at the redeveloped Honeycroft in October 2023.
The ones to watch
The Tanners certainly like to share the goals around the team. Their fifty-seven league goals being scored by nineteen different players. Leading the way are Lukas Frazen-Jones with eleven and Ruben Bartlett-Antwi with eight. Two faces who the Honeycroft faithful may recognise are Anuar Ceesayand Rhys Murrell-Williamson. They made four and eight appearances respectively for the Reds last season.
