Reds Land a Point in Comeback

Uxbridge took on Guernsey on Wednesday night and made 4 changes from our game on Saturday. Troy Murray replacing the injured Josh at right wing back, James Taylor and Shaun Preddie coming in for Jack Mullan and Scott Armsworth at centre half and Wilson in for Brandao in midfield. The game was delayed by 15 minutes due to a late arrival of Uxbridge players and match officials after circling Guernsey airport 7 times before landing and eventually touching down at 18:15.

However, Uxbridge didn’t get off to a slow start with a good shout for handball in the first 2 minutes waved away by the assistant referee and a corner given. In the 9th minute Fin Du Port cut inside Troy Murray on the Guernsey left hand side and hit a lovely shot into the top corner of the net with Legg having no chance. This goal gave the home side confidence as Uxbridge struggled to get two passes together in the pouring rain! Uxbridge had chances to equalise with George Moore dragging a shot wide on the edge of the box and numerous corners not testing the keeper. It was Guernsey who doubled their lead after 32 minutes with a free kick on the half way line was hopefully pumped into the box with the ball falling nicely to Ross Allen to fire past Legg for his 298th Guernsey goal. At half time Uxbridge 9 game unbeaten run looked under threat in the atrocious conditions.

HT 0-2

Half time brought a change in personnel with Alex Witham replacing Troy Murray. Uxbridge then had more of the ball without testing Josh Addison in the Guernsey goal. However, that was to change in the 60th minute when the ever running Ada Okorogheye picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, dribbled past the centre half and shot at the keepers near post. One the keeper won’t want to see again and the first meaningful shot on target. This gave Uxbridge belief and shots rained in on Guernsey’s goal- no pun intended- without really testing Addison. Uxbridge deserved leveller came in the 72nd minute when Casey Bocarro wand of a left foot put in another fantastic in swinging corner which was met by the head of James Taylor and Ada Okorogheye standing in front of Josh Addison in goal touched the ball with the outside of his foot into the corner with nobody on the post for Guernsey. A striker in good form with Okorogheye scoring his 11th this season. It should have been 12 when Okorogheye cut inside-like his first goal but blazed over the bar, Alex Witham looked like he scored but his left footer from the edge of the area skimmed the bar. In the dying moments,

Guernsey could have won it with a brilliant cross fizzing across the area. With 94 minutes played George Legg decided disagree with the referees decision- nowhere near the Uxbridge goal- and was given a straight red card for his poor language, a needless reaction which now means he serves a 3 match ban. There was hardly a kick afterwards and Uxbridge maintained their unbeaten run now stretching into the tenth game. All in all a good result being 2 goals at half time but soured with the late red card.
