Reds Steal the Points

Rishi Sunak was in charge of the country the last time Uxbridge tasted victory in an away league match, that was in November 2023, but the current side look to have more staying power than the previous Prime Minister as they made it nine games unbeaten in all competitions on Saturday.

It was Uxbridge’s first match on grass for month, but they wasted no time in asserting themselves with George Moore continuing proving a thorn in the Met Police’s side from the off and he had a good snapshot well saved by home keeper Zack Basey on 3 minutes. 2 minutes later Ada Okorogheye thought he had opened the scoring only to have his goal ruled out for offside. The away team continued to press and both Moore & CJ Fearn went close as the half wore on. The Reds were almost left to rue their profligacy when on 24 minutes Mason Galloway’s fantastic free kick smashed against the bar with Legg beaten – and only a great last-ditch tackle from Fearn prevented the rebound being put away. The visits continued to enjoy plenty of possession, and almost took the lead right on the break when Okorogheye was able to break clear and round Basey, but he was forced wide and could only shoot narrowly over the bar.

HT 0-0

The second half continued with Uxbridge enjoying plenty of possession, Leo Decabo was making himself a nuisance, he saw a header go narrowly over on 47 minutes, and saw a free kick well parried on 58 minutes. The game took a twist though on the hour mark as Moore was brought down in the box, to give the Reds a change to take the lead from the spot with defender Isaac Nkosi receiving his second yellow card to take Met Police down to ten men. Unfortunately, Decabo saw his spot kick well saved by Basey – and the travelling support began to wonder if it was going to be one of those days. They needn’t have worried though as barely 5 minutes later a ball into the box from substitute Troy Murray fell kindly for Moore to smash the ball home. Six minutes later Uxbridge put the game to bed when another great cross from Murray saw Okorogheye stoop to head home, with one of the lowest headers seen for some time! The remaining twenty minutes saw plenty of possession for the visitors with Moore, Wilson Chingoka and Taylor all going close -but they were unable to add to the score. All in all, a comfortable win for The Reds who travel to Guernsey on Wednesday evening full of confidence.
